Most folks are so used to walking into a grocery store (or roadside stand or farmer's market that BUYS, rather than GROWS, their produce) and being able to choose what they want from a huge selection of produce that they have a hard time understanding why our quantities or selection is sometimes limited.

Here at Four Hands Farm we grow everything we sell right here in Cocoa, FL. Everything is picked fresh within 24 hours of when you purchase it - often within just a few hours of the stand opening for the day. Although we have a lot of plants in the ground, we grow varieties bred for taste - not transportation or uniform harvest dates, etc. What this means is that all of our plants may not be ready for harvest at the same time. We usually have a period where each vegetable starts to come in, followed by a (all-too-brief!) period when production peaks and then it falls off again. We let the plants grow at their own speed and the results are worth it - you can taste it! We often just don't know far enough in advance which vegetables will be ready on a given day or even week since they are so dependent on factors outside our control.

Feel free to call me before coming out to see what we have available that day or just stop by and take home a suprise! Learning to cook what is available and in season can be a really fun and satisfying adventure - and we are always here to help and guide you.
